Home Ground: Language for an American Landscape

Barry Lopez invited 45 writers and poets to participate in a unique celebration of the language of the land. With managing editor Debra Gwartney, Lopez, the sage author of seminal books about the interaction between humankind and the rest of nature, assigned each writer a set of terms and we each wrote new definitions, creating, I must say, an amazing chorus of voices singing the land into fresh focus. I am deeply honored to be beside such luminaries as Gretel Ehrlich, Robert Haas, Barbara Kingsolver, William Kittredge, Patti Ann Rogers, Luis Alberto Urrea, and Terry Tempest Williams.
